Spring Lawn Care Tips for a Greener Yard
Tips to Green Up your Yard
Well it is that time of year once again. The temps are warming up, birds are singing and we are all tired of looking at brown grass. In this blog I will discuss three tips to help green up your lawn for the coming growning period.
First
Mow the grass short once in early spring. Now this not mean scalp the lawn as that can be very detrimental to the lawn health. No, what I mean is lower the mower deck to 2.5 inches in height. What this will do is remove all the dead growth from the winter. In doing so the lower portotion of the leaf balde is exposed to more sun light, thus causing a quicker green up. Oftern times this can increase the green up time by 2-3 weeks.
Second
Another tip that a fair amount of people tend to over look is a clean up of winter debris. We often think that fall is the time to remove all the leafs and debris form the yard. While this is correct, spring time removal is just as important. Think of it as a wet blanked on a camp fire. With the wet planked over the flames the fire has a hard time getting going. The grass is the same way in that with a layer of wet heavy debris laying on top it can have a hard time getting growing. So it is for that reason you should make a point of removing all the old leafs and debris from the turf.
Third
Perhaps the most important tip. Spring is the perfect time to apply a early fertilizer plus weed control application. This will help with two items. First the lawn will be "hungry" By this I mean that most of the nurtures left in the soil for the prior year will be used up. And second a little nitrogen added to the soil will help the grass to start to wake up for winter. It will also help in root growth, which is important moving into summerThese three tips combined will help to create a thick, lush, healthy lawn for the growing season.
